1.
Acknowledge
that you are a sinner in rebellion against God. To sin simply means to disobey God. We have all sinned and have all walked contrary to God’s
righteousness:
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans
3:23)
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
2.
Understand
that sin has a penalty:
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23)
3.
Believe that
Jesus Christ, God’s Son, died on the cross so that your sins could be
forgiven. Because we have all sinned,
we all deserved to have been on the cross.
However, Jesus voluntarily took our place, and paid sin’s penalty for us
all:
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were
still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8)
For God so loved the world that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life. (John 3:16)
4.
Repent of
your sins. To repent means to have a complete change of attitude towards
sin. Decide that with God’s help you
will no longer live a sinful lifestyle, and that you will not live a life that
is independent of God.
…unless you repent you will all likewise perish (Luke 13:3)
5.
Confess
Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord.
Give Him control of your life:
…if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and
believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For
it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your
mouth that you confess and are saved.
(Romans 10:9-10, NIV).
To help you
activate those five steps, please pray the following prayer out loud, praying
from the depths of your heart:
Dear God,
You are the Creator of all
things. I acknowledge that I am a
sinner in rebellion against You, and that I deserve Your punishment. Thank you that Jesus Christ died on the Cross
for my sins so that I could be forgiven.
Today, I ask you to forgive my sins.
I repent of my sins today, and make a decision to live for You, and to
no longer live a sinful lifestyle. I
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and give Him full control of my life. I receive Jesus as my personal Saviour
today. Thank you for saving me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Congratulations!
